Oxford Eric Twiname Report

Eric Twiname 2017

The weekend of the 14-15th of October, two feva teams (eight boats) represented Spinnaker in the Eric Twiname Team Racing event in Oxford.

We were all a little nervous turning up on the Saturday morning as there were a lot of teams and they all seemed to have done team racing events before, but we rigged and launched our boats with our Port team the first to sail in the 3rd race of the day. Admittedly, we were all a bit confused about timings, but after our first few races we began to feel a little more confident with the course.

In each race there were four boats (two in each team), they lasted about 10 minutes each and was made up of four marks in an “S” shape course. We had four wins out of 11-12 races on the first day which we were quite pleased about as some teams were very aggressive. This meant that the next day Spinnaker Starboard were put into the Silver A fleet and Spinnaker Port ended up in the Silver B. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to race each other once throughout the 2 days.

Neither team managed to qualify for the semi-finals of their fleet, but we managed to beat Winchester College in a close match on the 2nd day after they had beaten us on the 1st. Overall the event was a great success and everybody really enjoyed it!! We definitely hope to compete next year…
