RNLI Race, Spinnaker Sailing Club

RNLI PENNANT DAY 28 AUGUST

I was very anxious in the morning to wake up to drizzle and a buffeting wind so was not expecting many to turn up. How surprised was I to get there and find we had a full training morning going on with many juniors signing on for the 12:00 race. Altogether we had 26 craft competing, a fantastic turn out. The time recording got a bit interesting and we were grateful to Tiggy Ansell for giving us the benefit of her experience.

The wind direction and strength was such we had wind all over the lake so could run a challenging course, we had a small number of capsizes. The Oppy Juniors went and joined the senior race course so we had to score them in with the adults: Kieran Young (Oppy) won the first race on adjusted time.

Thanks to Jackie for excellent catering and making sure we had some cakes and a strawberry flan to eat with tea and drinks later.

Adult prize went to Andy Hoyland and Junior to Joel in his Oppy both of whom won an RNLI cap.

Thanks to every body’s generosity we raised an amazing £155.00 for the RNLI. I have donated this personally, with Gift Aid the total received by the RNLI was £193.75.
