At Spinnaker we aim to give children a fun and relaxed introduction to sailing, creating an environment in which sailors can progress at their own pace and follow their own interests.
The lake provides a very safe environment in which to learn to sail, and doesn’t have the hassle of tides, currents and traffic that can be unnerving when starting out. Due to our location Spinnaker Lake continues to provide challenge, even to the most experienced sailor, due to its renowned shifty winds. We also strongly encourage our sailors to take every opportunity to sail at other lakes and on the sea as well, to broaden their sailing experience.
The youth provision at Spinnaker has been summarized in the following visual:

RYA Development Pathways
Not all children will want to compete at the highest level, but Spinnaker continues to produce youth sailors that compete at National, European and World events.
For those sailors with the drive and ambition (and family support) to take it to the very top, we are aware that the RYA development pathways are a somewhat baffling to the uninitiated.
We hope that the links below will help those that are interested to find the information they need to support their children. If you have any further queries, please contact the Youth Co-ordinator, who will endeavour to link you up with those that are active in each Class.
