COMPLETED Sunday Spring e-Series
The first day of the Spinnaker Virtual Spring 'e' Series was held on Sunday. 9 sailors rigged the Star-class boats provided by the organisers at Portsmouth. Unfortunately, Les found there were some bits missing on his boat and was forced to pack away. The other 8 boats made their way to the start line in the Solent in bright sunshine. Race Officer, Keith, abandoned the Start Boat and used his knowledge of the course to find his way to the front of the fleet a position he built on through the race for a win. Andy M followed in second and Paul W in third. There was gear failure on three of the boats, Rebecca S and our 2 junior sailors, Orlando and Orson and the competitors were awarded Average Points. Last boat over the finish chose the boats and location for Race 2 and so we jetted to Sydney and stepped in our borrowed 49ers. Sail it like you borrowed it Andy M proved blisteringly fast, followed in by Keith and Paul. Yet again, gear damage dogged the same three competitors for another Average Points. Orson chose our next gear F50s back in the Solent. These beasts split the fleet between the Ben Ainslies and Uncle Alberts. Andy probably won he'd packed up, changed and eaten the competitors tea before most of us got around the first mark! Paul pulled in a second, Jon C a third and Rob M 4th. Keith sunk his boat yards from the finish. Rebecca and the boys broke their toys again! Amazingly, they were lent boats for the fourth race back in Stars in Cagliari. Paul continued his upward trajectory with a bullet. Andy caught Keith Port Starboard to take 2nd from Keith. Rebecca, Orson and Orlando managed to keep their boats in one piece for this race with Orson showing the best speed. Results so far are on the Website.
